Introducing 'Kipya Ki?'
uganda press photo award
Jan 26, 2022
FOTEA, in collaboration with FORMAT are pleased to announce a new collaborative project: ‘Kipya Ki?’

Kipya ki? is a Luganda phrase meaning ‘What’s New?’ This collaboration mixes cross-curating, digital collaboration and will showcase photographers working on the emergent forms of the medium from across East Africa and the UK.

Led by the teams at FOTEA and FORMAT, with two emerging curators, from the UK and Uganda, who are collaborating with 10 emerging artists from both countries to explore the East African and British photographic (and related media) landscapes to platform new ways of working.

The project will culminate in an immersive online multiplayer exhibition in New Art City launching online and at FORMAT in early April.

Keep an eye on the FORMAT/
QUAD and FOTEA channels for updates on the project.

Kipya Ki? is supported by the British Council Cultural Exchange programme, which supports cultural organisations, festivals, artists, and creatives between the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa and the UK to create art, build networks, collaborate and develop markets and share artists’ work with audiences.
