Katwe For Chess Not Rolex
Katwe is known to Kampalans variously as a ‘slum’, as a home of metal fabricators, as a place where one can buy rolexes (chapatti and omelette) and as a place where things are made and duplicated. In Ugandan English Katwe is a byword for locally made or locally fixed. But with the opening of Disney’s new film, ‘The Queen of Katwe’, this will change- the world will know Katwe for chess and not rolex.
