Some projects are well-thought-out. You create the project title and storyboard and look for your contacts in order to execute the project. Yet there are also projects that come out of your commissioned assignments that end up being some of your favourites. It can go from someone else’s project to your own, you keep following the story and it develops into your own personal ongoing journey. The story of Sifrash and her family is a story I would never have thought about documenting or working on. I was sent to a Health Center in Maksegnit, Gondor to document newly born babies and the work and support of Health Centers, and that is how Sifrash’s story became a project I wanted to follow up. Her story taught me about resistance, sisterhood, strength and the sense of community. Sifrash and Mar’eshet didn’t have steady income to raise their daughter and there was only the skeleton of a shop that Mar’eshet’s family had built a long time ago, but that stayed unused lacking the necessary finances. With an online campaign and the family’s agreement, I was able to raise money through my family, friends and Instagram followers for Sifrash and Moreshet to build a shop. With no stores nearby, this not only helped Sifrash’s family but also the community around them.
