We have an exciting line-up of talks and workshops for this year. All free and open to all who are able to join, so please take the time to register for anything that catches your interest.

October 21th - Winners Announcement

October 22nd & 23rd - Canon Check and Clean  
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Completely free check and clean for all Canon gear. You will have to be available to drop off and pick up your equipment.
- Registration for the service will be live on the 22nd & 23rd October.
- Anyone interested to receive the complimentary check and clean service must register on these dates.
- We will only accept Canon products for the service.
- After the registration period closes, Anisuma will contact each registered person to arrange for them to bring their equipment for the services.
- The customer must take their equipment to the center on the date and time shared with them in order to receive the service. They must then collect on the same. All costs incurred for the collection and drop-off of equipment is borne at their costs.
- Any suggested / recommended repairs or additional services will be notified to the customer, and the customer will need to decide if they proceed with the same. If they chose to do so this will be borne at their cost.

October 22nd - Exhibition Open

The physical 2021 winners’ exhibition will be open to visitors. See all the winning images and stories from this year’s Uganda Press Photo Award and East African Photography Award. Also on display will be some of the works from this year’s mentorship programme. 

Exhibition will be open to the public until November 21st, 2021.

Physical exhibition is taking place a MoTIV on Old Port Bell Road. It's open from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM till 5:00 PM.

October 23rd -  Mentorship Retrospective: Five years of Learning

October 27th - Things Fall Apart Exhibition Opening 
3:00 PM | Uganda Museum 

In time for the 50th anniversary of the film adaptation of “Things Fall Apart” and “No Longer at Ease” by Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe, icon of postcolonial literature, more than 2000 unpublished film stills, various production papers, correspondences, as well as a film print of the production from 1970 has been found in the estate of the Berlin filmmaker Jason Pohland (1934-2014). Uganda Museum will present a selection of this archive findings. The photographs show Chinua Achebe on set, the Ugandan princess, lawyer and later diplomat Elizabeth of Toro, who shortly after shooting becomes Uganda‘s foreign minister. The exhibition will be accompanied by a programme of film screening and talks. 

October 28th - Photographer’s Talk with Akinbode Akinbiyi

Photographer Akinbode Akinbiyi will take us through his photography journey. An urban and street photographer, his work has focused on large urban centers, especially on the African continent. He’s covered all aspects of megacities, from the banal everyday occurrences to the increasing profusion of high-rises. He combines his wanderings with master classes, workshops and writing. 
This talk is organised in collaboration with Modern Art Film Archive within the framework of “Things Fall Apart” exhibition which was co-curated by Akinbode.

An all-day review open to all photographers from across the African continent. They will have a chance to talk to industry professionals and peers and seek exposure, feedback and advice about their work. More details here

November 1st to 3rd - Canon Basic DSLR

Workshop for people keen on photography, either starting out or have been at it for a short while and wish to learn more. So if you want to learn to capture great images or wish to understand the exposure triangle and how aperture, shutter speed and ISO work together, this is the perfect workshop for you.

November 3rd - Photography on the Hustle: Getting Your Business Started

November 4th - Photography on the Hustle: Tax and Accounting for Photographers and Creatives

Led by Areeba Kanyonyore, the seminar will cover the following areas: the need for accounting and tax compliance; basic bookkeeping principles-Invoices and recording expenses; URA TIN Registration (Individual vs Company), tax obligations and how to save Tax. The seminar will be practical and audience centered.

November 5th to 6th - Writing for Photography
9:00 PM - 6:00 PM | Hybrid

Words can help guide understanding and bring more meaning to imagery. Through the “Writing for Photography” workshop photographers will learn how to effectively literally express key aspects of their work to others and in turn also help them become better adjusted to talking about their work because once one can write about their work, one can talk about it. Furthermore, writing also helps guide the thinking process, can help in the process of developing images or stories and will also benefit grant writing abilities. 

Workshop will be in 3 sessions:
- Writing 101: logical structures and semantics.
- Interactive session on writing story titles, summaries, captions artist statements; exploring how they can impact the way images are received.
- Critical writing about photographic interpretations.

The workshop will be lead by Carol Kagezi.
